“I thank BestCare for teaching me the tools I needed to save my own life. Because of BestCare, every door in every positive way has opened for me.”
Melanie’s addiction to methamphetamine was poisoning every facet of her life. She had lost her children, home and family to her addiction. She also felt trapped in an abusive relationship that nearly killed her, sending her to the emergency room with a garden rake embedded in her arm just days before she entered treatment at BestCare.
“I lost everything that was good in my life,” she says. “My kids didn’t have their parents in their lives; my son was suffering from depression and my daughter needed counseling.”
Melanie was ready. Looking to rebuild her life and be a better mother to her children, she chose to seek treatment from BestCare.
“The counselors were amazing,” she remembers. “In the past, I’d never been able to talk to a counselor without feeling analyzed or judged. But at BestCare, the whole environment makes you feel at ease and at home – right down to the building maintenance guy. I just felt comfortable.”
The process, she says, allowed her to heal the wounds of her past and regain her self-esteem.
She also learned valuable coping skills to manage triggers, which she says even today helps her handle challenging life situations in a positive and healthy way.
In the six months she’s been in recovery, life has changed dramatically for Melanie. For the first time in four years, she now holds down a full-time job and is living with her children.
Melanie also mentors others who are in the early stages of recovery, and shares her story of addiction with vulnerable teens at risk of heading down a similar path.
“I thank BestCare for teaching me the tools I needed to save my own life,” she says. “Every door in every positive way has opened for me.”
